It’s believed that the author (Arlo Henslin) first had the idea of the book after riding Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean, simply for the animatronic pirates being so weird for him, that he decided to build a world around the concept.

Should your ship ever need repairs, keep an eye out for neutral Cogs-Folk when building your crew. Their mechanical expertise is second to none, even when supplies are not readily available.
The final Fleet the emerges due to Hellmans rebellion are the Scribe-Feathers. It is only thanks to these diligent individuals that many stories are passed from one to another. Although they may often be found below deck, they are key in navigation and creative accounting to sustain a crew.
